In honor of the International Day of Forests, March 21, 2015, internationally acclaimed brewmeister Finn Knudsen, in cooperation with Choose Outdoors, a national nonprofit focused on enjoyment and appreciation of our public lands, is calling on breweries around the world to develop their own special beer commemorating the importance of sustainable forestry and the world's forests.
Mr Knudsen, an active outdoorsman and member of Rotary International, said, "Those of us who love the great outdoors recognize the critical issues we are faced with in forests around the world. It is our hope that this challenge will not only create some great brews, it will also draw attention to the importance of working collaboratively to solve the complex issues facing us. We hope to raise funds that will, with Choose Outdoors help, support the many efforts of Rotary that assist those efforts that increase the appreciation and enjoyment of the great outdoors."
Choose Outdoors board chair Tom Morton added, "The time has come for all of us who love the great outdoors, for so many reasons, to step forward to show our interest in helping. I believe this contest will draw widespread attention to the need for all of us to be proactive in dealing with this complex, yet essential need to pursue new solutions to the problems of forest health and sustainability."
According to Tommyknocker Director of Brewery Operations Steve Indrehus, "We are proud to be one of the first step up to this challenge. We have been using pine needles to make some of the best brews ever and we realize that trees sustain and protect us in invaluable ways. They provide the clean air that we breathe and the water that we drink. They host and safeguard the planet's biodiversity and act as our natural defense against climate change. Life on earth is made possible and sustainable thanks to forests and trees".
Mr Knudsen is in the process of putting together a select committee to judge the best brews, best ads focused on forest health and best grass roots campaign to highlight the importance of sustainable forestry.
